SUE’S LETTER

After an August break, Paul and Linda have resumed their full range of activities which are increasing as work on
the new album draws to a close. Paul and the band are now in the studio doing the final mixing, and although release details have still to be finalised the album should be appearing in early '93.
Recently there has been a flurry of activity concerning Linda's new photography book Linda McCartney - Sixties, which was published on 25 September by Pyramid (UK) and Little, Brown (USA). Our American readers may have caught the various TV and press interviews she did in New York around that time.
Our feature EXHIBIT 'B' previews the second major exhibition given over to Mrs Mac's work by the prestigious Royal Photographic Society at their headquarters in Bath, which I hope many of you will manage to see. Those of you who can't will have an opportunity to do so later when the exhibition moves to London and Los Angeles.
Linda is also a leading figure in National Vegetarian Week, being held in UK from 28 September through 4 October. Supported by The Vegetarian Society, the idea of this annual event is to encourage the public to renounce meat for seven days, in the hope that there will be many long-term converts. Scores of hotels, restaurants, pubs and schools will produce and promote special vegetarian meals. As Linda says, "You won't miss meat", so why not "go veggie" for a week and see just how easy it is? Some additional inspiration may be found from US reader Candace VanSciver, who has contributed this issue's AND IN THE GREEN CORNER column.
Following on from our feature in CS62 about Brightness, the captive Beluga whale, I'm sure you will be happy to know chat the story has a happy ending. The Russian government was inundated with letters from around the world, all demanding his release, and they conceded defeat. John Hicks, who wrote the article in our Green Corner column, tells me that he is hoping to go to Russia again soon, together with Alan Knight of British Divers Marine Life Rescue, to arrange for the whale's rehabilitation and ultimate release back into the wild, hopefully in Canadian waters. So the pressure applied by Paul and Linda, Carla Lane and hundreds of other concerned individuals has saved this beautiful creature, underlining once again how people can bring about change.
We'll be back in December with our holiday issue. Have a pleasant autumn.

'til next time
Sue
