SUE'S LETTER

We've had a lot of positive feedback from what was an exciting departure for us: the special vegetarian issue. This time, we continue the food theme with LINDA'S FOOD LAUNCH - something which UK readers won't have missed, given the amount of press coverage it has received! Having heard about Linda's range of foods for so long, now that it is in the stores you'll be able to taste them all and find out for yourselves what we've been raving about. The HARD ROCK CAFE in London might soon host a special vegetarian day, too, which will feature Linda's veggie burgers (in place of the other sort), along with a selection of meals taken from her best-selling cookbook HOME COOKING. Look out for a report in the next issue.
It's been a busy time for both Paul and Linda recently, as they and the band have been out doing some small scale, "secret" shows here and there, to recapture some of the intimacy of club gigs. The first concerts - in Barcelona and at the Mean Fiddler club in London - are reported in SSHHHH! IT'S SECRET GIG TIME. People who were lucky enough to attend heard some of the material from Unplugged - The Official Bootleg. Paul talks exclusively to Sandwich about this new album, explaining why he chose those particular songs.
The other big event in June was the premiere, in the Anglican Cathedral, Liverpool, of Paul's Liverpool Oratorio. The feeling of the rehearsals is captured by Mark Lewisohn in NON NOBIS SOLUM SED TOTI MUNDO NATI -and he'll be following up with a review of the premiere next time. Linked with this, we meet CARL DAVIS, who has worked for three years on the Oratorio.
Other features include a further exploration of the film and video archive, an update on Paul and Elvis Costello's collaborative songwriting efforts, a new reader's question-and-answer column (Write Away) and, we're happy to announce, a continuation of our discussion of vegetarian, animal rights and other environmental issues, AND IN THE GREEN CORNER.
For those of you who are members of the FUN CLUB, please note that there is no need to write and tell us about the imminent expiry of your subscription. You will twice be reminded by us before your membership expires, with both the third and fourth Sandwich issues of each sub.

'til next time . . .
Sue
