I recently watched a British comedy on video called Eat The Rich. Apart from being very funny I could swear that I saw Paul McCartney in one scene, sat at a table. Is it him? When was the film shot? Paul Groundwater, Brisbane, Australia

Yes, it's Paul. The film was a creation of the Comic Strip team, directed by Peter Richardson who invited Paul and Linda to play a cameo role in the production. The scene was shot in March 1987 at the Moor Park country house near London.

Is 'Helen Wheels' available on CD in Britain?

Not yet, no. It can be bought in America though, on the US version of the Band On The Run CD.

When I saw the Get Back film recently I noticed the name Ian McEwan during the final credits. My friend is a specialist on the writer Ian McEwan and he would like to know if it is the same one and, if it is, what kind of link there is between him and Get Back. Ulrich Nauditt, Koln, Germany

It is the same esteemed Mr McEwan, writer of, among other books, The Ploughman's Lunch (also a film) and the Whitbread award winner The Child In Time. Paul met Ian in 1988 when he was made an honorary doctor of the University of Sussex (see GS49) and Ian gave the excellent tribute speech. When the Get Back project first came along Paul suggested that Ian submit an original treatment for the film, which he did, but not all of his ideas were used.
